Hospitable has launched a permanently free plan called Essentials that gives hosts access to property management tools without a monthly subscription. The company says it is the first PMS in the STR industry to offer multi-channel distribution at no cost and with no commission on bookings.
For hosts currently managing listings through a single OTA, or running operations manually, the plan opens access to tools that typically sit behind a paywall. Essentials connects listings across Airbnb, Booking.com, Vrbo, and more platforms from one dashboard, which is the core function most hosts pay a PMS to handle.
What Hosts Get and What Stays Paid
The free tier includes channel management, a unified inbox, automated messaging, a guest portal with check-in details, rental agreements, upsells, and task management. There's no cap on the number of properties or users.
What it doesn't include: direct booking websites, smart lock and hardware integrations, dynamic pricing, and other more advanced features. Those remain paid add-ons.
The split between free and paid is drawn around revenue-generating and automation tools. Hosts get the operational core at no cost. Features designed to actively grow revenue or connect to third-party hardware sit behind subscriptions.
Why It’s Free
Hospitable is making a calculated bet here. The company is banking on the idea that free core tools will pull in the large share of independent hosts who don't currently use any property management software. Once those hosts are on the platform and seeing value from multi-channel distribution and automated messaging, paid add-ons like dynamic pricing and direct bookings become a natural next step.
Things like the trip insurance upsell and dynamic pricing Hospitable rolled out over the past year make more sense in this context. They're paid tools that help hosts generate more revenue, but they're optional. The free tier works without them.
For hosts that’ve been managing listings on a single platform or juggling calendars manually, Essentials gives you multi-channel distribution and basic automation without committing to a monthly fee. It's worth testing, especially if cost has been the reason you haven't adopted a PMS. Just know that the more advanced tools that can meaningfully move your revenue still cost money.
